Christmas in July

Hello peeps, I have a funny story to share. I finally decided to tell my son that Santa doesn't exist. My family was convinced he already knew and he was just playing along but I knew he still believed. He questioned me several times in the past but I quickly told him what he wanted to hear.

I had to tell him because he's already working on his Christmas list. Every time he sees something he wants he writes it down. When I first saw the list I was shocked. There were several pricey things on it that I knew he was not going to use or get.

So today, the conversation started like this.

D'Angelo "Mom"
Me " Yes, D"
D'Angelo " I'm going to add a laptop to my Christmas List"
Me "I think you have too many expensive things on that list"
D'Angelo "OK I'll take stuff off so I can get the laptop and the I Touch "
Me "Do you know the story of Santa Claus"
D'Angelo " Yes, but tell me anyway"
Me " too much to type but I explained the story and mid story"
D'Angelo "WHAT! Don't tell me your Santa"
Me " Yes, honey Jorge and I are the ones that buy you your presents from Santa"
D'Angelo " You broke my heart"
Me " But we can still believe in the magic"
D'Angelo ___________________________(silence)

End of conversation, he didn't want to discuss it further and besides the fact that he's under the weather I think it depressed him because he went to sleep at 7:00pm. Poor thing, I busted his bubble.

It's not easy being a parent and I wish I could pretend forever but for real we totally can't. Wait until I tell him about the Tooth Fairy and The Easter Bunny. I'm in trouble. LOL

I remember the day I told Chris. We were walking from the bus to our home in Brooklyn and she just came out and asked and I told her the truth. I was sadder than she was and I asked to help me keep the magic going for her brother and she did a beautiful job. Should I tell Matthew?

Ady, I remember the day that I learned that there really was no Santa (as in the image on your blog). I could not imagine that there was no sled and reindeer that flew the world in 24 hours : (.

There is no easy way to tell your kids the sad truth. I dread the day I have to tell Sophia and Olivia.

You're a good mom, Ady. Hang in there. My daughter cried and cried when I told her. When she calmed down, she then stated--"Thank God there is still the Tooth Fairy and the Easter Bunny." I wanted to die. No, it isn't easy. But she is my helper to the little ones now, and I love that we share that. THAT is the true meaning...and he'll understand.

Someone once told me that it was smart to not tell a child about Santa around the holidays--that it was easier when it was in the off-season. Be thankful for that!!

Big hugs, my friend!!

(I could have sworn I left a comment on this before, but I think it was only in my head.)

I believed in Santa until I was 11 and then my 12-yr-old cousin killed it for me... at the family party... ON NOCHE BUENA! Can you imagine what a bummer that was?? When my parents and I got home from the party there were all these gifts under the tree that were not there earlier. I was like "nice try. I'm going to bed." That sucked. LOL!!
